Challenge

Much of Rope Guy’s work at Universal Studios had to be completed overnight after a ride was shut down. The team typically had approximately six hours to complete the work so the ride could be powered back up and ready before park guests arrived. The strict overnight schedule made scaffolding impractical, and the work was performed above catwalks where no direct lighting was available.

Rope Guy Solution

The Rope Guy team used specialized rope-access techniques to quickly reach work areas above the catwalks without the time and space required to install and remove scaffolding. Because the work was conducted in low-light conditions, team members used headlamps and flashlights to safely access and complete their work.

The flexibility and efficiency of rope access allowed the team to maximize the limited overnight maintenance window.

Results

The required work was completed within the approximately six-hour overnight window, allowing the ride to be powered back up and ready for guests the following day. Rope access eliminated the time-consuming setup and removal associated with scaffolding and provided an efficient solution for working in difficult-to-reach areas above the catwalks and in low-light conditions.
